What to expect during an engagement session and how to prepare...

So you’ve booked an engagement session with your photographer…now what? Don’t panic. Don’t worry. Engagement sessions are meant to be fun. They’re meant to be an opportunity for you and your photographer to establish a rapport so that come the wedding day you are more comfortable with each other and of course, you get some great photos of yourselves wearing clothes you normally wear (rather than wearing a wedding gown or a suit/tuxedo)

On the day of the engagement session, some women choose to get their hair and makeup done professionally…some don’t. It all depends on your own personal preference and style. If you are working with me my goal is to make you feel as comfortable as possible on the shoot. I want to photograph who you are naturally. I don’t overly pose because I tend to find too much direction will make people feel awkward. Instead, I might give direction that is more vague such as “focus on each other” or “hold hands and walk over that way” or “hold each other” or “nuzzle in” the goal is for you to remain comfortable and not to get too self-conscious.

Typically an engagement session will last anywhere between 1-2 hours and I like to target the start time an hour or two before sunset. Make sure you have something to eat beforehand and it’s not a bad idea to bring some snacks in case you think you might get hungry or worse yet hangry. I also support bringing or drinking a little alcohol if you want to slightly lower your inhibitions. ;)

Ultimately the goal is to have fun. To make the session easy and effortless and to get some great images and establish a rapport. Your photographer will take care of the rest.
