Managing Your Digital Assets

This is a big one. You’ve spent thousands on a wedding photographer to capture the big day. A few weeks after the wedding the files have been delivered to you through an online gallery. Now what? How do you store these images for years to come?

Digital storage changes fast. We’ve come a long way since using DVD’s. I recommend storing your memories across multiple platforms. The best practice is to save your photos in three different places. For example, you may keep these images on a USB drive, the hard drive on your computer, and an external hard drive. I highly recommend saving your images to “cloud” services like Dropbox, iCloud, and backblaze.com, and if you have an amazon prime account they include cloud storage with your prime membership.

The ultimate goal here is redundancy because it’s not a matter of if…it’s a matter of when…and when one of these storage devices fails you’ll be backed up and your digital heirlooms will be safe and sound.
